What if there were a belt that could help you with better time management before you start your day? I can’t stop thinking this week about the time it takes to put my best fashion foot forward. Can you relate?
You are up at 5:30 am every day to get in that gym workout, or meditate, maybe yoga is your thing, etc... You need to be in the office first thing, and you eat a protein bar or something quick at your desk for lunch. Every night is either picking up the kids from daycare, meeting a client for dinner, meeting the girls for a much-needed evening to blow off some steam, or date night with your significant other. Weekends might be quick getaway trips, day hiking, running a charity 10k event, doing some household chores, or maybe just a lot of running around with the family.
We have talked for weeks about you, the Contorno Belt woman. You are smart. You are philanthropic. You are a leader. But, you also need to have strict time management to keep your heightened level of success. Contorno Belts accepts the challenge to be your go-to ally in your fashion fight to manage time wisely.
"I witnessed two opposing fashion experiences this past weekend in this very vein."
The first. I was invited to a very swanky afternoon engagement party with my girlfriend. The gala — and it was a gala — it was held at her family’s very affluent home in the wealthy suburbs. I am always slightly hesitant about what to wear when I go to an informal yet ultimately formal if you read-between-the-lines event as such. My default is always to be classic and simple, as I would prefer to proudly blend into the scenery and let the true star shine. I was pleasantly surprised at the casual-chic attire by the entire crowd, both men and women. But, I was especially impressed with the simple elegance of my friend, her sister and her mother (the three official hosts). Fun, flowery sundresses, simple jewelry (and my girl Kristen was wearing an accent belt) with easy and light cascading curls. My friend’s sister even admitted she got her dress on sale at H&M, and she got ready in about 15 minutes. The successful, career-oriented guests arrived, and all were dressed as such. (I couldn’t help think about our popular Woodstock article over this past summer… I think we are on to something.) The party was fabulous in its simple elegance.
Wildly impressed, I floated back home thinking how much fashion has changed in my life. That night, staying in with dinner and a movie, we ended up watching Wall Street, the shrine of 1980s greed, wealth and excess. As having seen this movie about 20 times, with this latest viewing, I was very focused on the fashion of the era. I was immediately struck by the dichotomy of these similarly-aged women on my screen. This was hardly the boho sophistication of my friend’s event. Huge, manicured hair. Bold, loud colors with clashing, unnecessary accessories. And, that was just the men.
I know I am talking two different worlds — a breezy engagement party in 2019 and the corporate boardroom of 1987. But watching a movie from a long-ago time, it seemed successful women had to desperately try to stand out in a sea of black-suited men. The almost-neon colors. The curtain-rod sized shoulder pads. Overly-done makeup. The accessories dripping in gold: the huge earrings, necklaces, belts. The hair bigger, reaching the heavens. It looked cheap, over-the-top, and just trying too hard. Who has time to do any of that?
Of course, this was life for a corporate woman in 1987. A different era that none of us will truly comprehend if we didn’t live it. And, we need to remember these brave trailer-blazers crashed into the corporate world using what they knew would get into that front door — time-consuming, very thought-out fashion statements.
Flash forward to today. You, the Contorno woman, are the next generation. We honor, respect and have gratitude for all our foremothers did for us to get us in that boardroom.
But times have changed. As the next generation of business leaders, you don’t have excess time to spend on fashion. You don’t need to make a fashion statement to get that interview. You don’t need to spend two hours getting makeup, hair, and couture ready to have that deal-making breakfast lunch. You don’t need 15 articles of clothing and jewelry to stand out. You just need yourself and a fashion ally or two. Contorno Belts will be your partner in this fight with time management.
